Patent attorneys are engineers or natural scientists. After completing a technical or scientific degree with a master’s or diploma from a university or technical college, patent attorney candidates complete a 3- to 4-year practical training programme at a patent law firm or in the patent department of an industrial company. During this training period, candidates acquire the legal knowledge required to practise as a patent attorney.
