Alexander von Kirschbaum is a graduate engineer in mechanical engineering and has been active in intellectual property for many years. From 1996 to 2024, he worked at dompatent and has continued to support the firm as Of Counsel since 2025, making his extensive experience available to the firm. He is a German and European Patent Attorney as well as a UPC Representative.

 

His technical focus areas include mechanical engineering, process engineering, automotive engineering, and medical technology. He advises clients on the strategic development and further expansion of national and international IP portfolios covering patents, utility models, trademarks, and designs.

 

A particular focus of his work is the defense and enforcement of intellectual property rights. He represents clients in opposition, nullity, and cancellation proceedings in Germany and abroad, prepares infringement, validity, and freedom-to-operate opinions, and provides comprehensive advice in cases of IP infringement. In addition, he supports clients in out-of-court negotiations as well as in litigation.

 

Alexander von Kirschbaum studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Munich and completed his training as a patent attorney at dompatent von Kreisler. He is admitted to practice before the European Patent Office and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

 

He is a member of the German Chamber of Patent Attorneys (Patentanwaltskammer), epi, and FICPI, and volunteers in the inventor advisory service of the IHK Cologne as well as at selected trade fair events organized by Koelnmesse.
