Dr. Thomas Weber is a graduate chemist and holds a doctorate in natural sciences (Dr. rer. nat.), with many years of experience in intellectual property law. From 1988 to 2021, he worked at dompatent and has continued to support the firm as Of Counsel since 2022. He is a German and European Patent Attorney.

 

His technical focus areas include organic and inorganic chemistry, polymer and pharmaceutical chemistry, as well as film and fiber technology, electrochemistry, and nanotechnology. In addition, he has extensive expertise in life sciences, medical technology, the consumer goods industry, agrochemistry, and in chemical processes and applications.

 

A particular focus of his work is the defense and enforcement of intellectual property rights. He represents clients in opposition, nullity, and cancellation proceedings in Germany and abroad, prepares infringement opinions, and provides strategic advice in cases of IP infringement. He also represents clients before courts and in design matters before offices and courts. Further areas of expertise include German employee invention law and the management of complex patent litigation.

 

Dr. Weber studied chemistry at the University of Stuttgart and subsequently earned his doctorate. He spent one year as a research fellow at the institute of Nobel Laureate Prof. George A. Olah at the University of Southern California (USC), USA. He completed his training as a patent attorney at dompatent von Kreisler. He is admitted to practice before the European Patent Office and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

 

He is a member of the German Chamber of Patent Attorneys and epi. His long-standing professional commitment includes serving as a board member of the German Association of Patent Attorneys (Bundesverband Deutscher Patentanwälte e.V.), as a tutor in European patent law at CEIPI in Strasbourg, and as a national and international lecturer on European and German patent law. He also volunteers in the inventor advisory service of the IHK Cologne.

 

His publications include, among others, the article “Abhängigkeit von telle-quelle-Marken” (Mitteilungen der deutschen Patentanwälte, 1993, pp. 313–332).
