Jochen Hilleringmann is a graduate engineer in electrical engineering and has been active in intellectual property law for several decades. From 1985 to 2024, he worked at dompatent and has continued to support the firm as Of Counsel since 2025. He is a German and European Patent Attorney as well as a UPC Representative.
His technical focus lies in electrical engineering – particularly semiconductor technology – as well as in information and software technology, including software-related inventions and business methods. In addition, he has experience in the fields of mechanical engineering and physics.
He provides comprehensive advice on IP strategies and on building national and international IP portfolios covering patents, utility models, trademarks, and designs. A particular emphasis of his work is strategic counseling and the enforcement of intellectual property rights. He represents clients in opposition, nullity, and cancellation proceedings in Germany and abroad, prepares infringement, validity, freedom-to-operate, and due diligence opinions, and represents clients in both litigation and out-of-court disputes.
He also has particular expertise in trademark and design matters, the enforcement of rights at trade fairs, and the drafting and negotiation of license and distribution agreements. Another focus of his practice is advising Chinese-speaking clients, particularly with regard to market entry in Germany and Europe.
Jochen Hilleringmann studied electrical engineering at Ruhr University Bochum and completed his training as a patent attorney at dompatent von Kreisler. He is admitted to practice before the European Patent Office and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
He is a member of numerous national and international professional associations and volunteers in the inventor advisory service of the IHK Cologne as well as at selected trade fair events organized by Koelnmesse.
